Economy

In the 80s and the beginning of the 90s Peru had terrible economic problems with an inflation of about 10 000 %, and changed currency twice. With new president the inflation was stabilished, and is now 4 %. In 1999 Peru had an export worth 5.9 billion dollars, and a GDP at 116 billion dollars (4500 per capita). The most important exports are copper, fish, agricultural products, zink, gold and oil. Tourism is also an important income. The most important trade-partners are USA, Japan, Germany, England, Chile and Columbia. Peru is a rich country, but there are huge difference between rich and poor. Most capital and economic movement is going on in Lima, and in the provinces very limited. Within the cities there are also big economic differenes. But lately there has been a great technologial development in Peru, and parts of Lima could remind of any big city in Europe and USA. There has been a lot of foreign investments which has created activity and development.
