The official currency of Peru is Nuevo Sol (S/.). its divided in 100 cents, and the coins are of 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, 1, 2, and 5 soles, and the bills are in 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 soles.

The american dollar is accepted in most commercial stores, restaurants, and all touristic places at the change rate of the day. Most establishments accept the most well-known creditcards, like Visa, Mastercard, Diners and American Express. The use of travellers checks is limited.

To pay with creditcard, make sure you just pay the amount for the service have asked for.

The tourists arriving Peru, do not need any kind of vaccination, only if you are traveling to the Amazon-basin, it is recommendable take the yellow fever vaccine 10 days before. Malaria pills is also recommended for the Amazonas-zone, allthough there are hardly any cases of Malaria.


Bring with you a copy of your identification-documents. Keep the originals and your valuables in a custody where you stay. The tour conductor can infrorm you about any doubt the tourist may have.

Bring with you small amount of money when going out, and don´t show necklaces, watches, wallets etc.

Don´t walk at late night in dark areas or without company

In Peru the tipping is variable, and depends on your satisfaction of the service you have been given.

The attention hours of the Peruvian banks are generally between monday and friday between 09.00 and 18.00. Most banks attend Saturday untill midday.

The bank machines for the different banks you will find in the bigger cities, to withdraw money in national currency or Dollars.

You can make national and international phonecalls from the public phones. The country codes and city codes you will find inside the phone cabins.

To communicate with your country via internet we inform you that there are internet cafe in every street-corner, at approximately US $ 0.50 per hour.
